Are you looking to get involved in your community and help others?

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company is a 100% volunteer company and we are always looking for new volunteers to join us! Everyone can help no matter what your skills may be. We have four types of members:

Operational- Adults 18 years and older. 

         These members take training and respond to emergency situations. In order to respond to emergency calls, you will need (at minimum) CPR/AED, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Firefighter 1.  All courses are offered through the University of Maryland's Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. Courses are based on a college schedule and therefore it could take up to a year to be able to ride on a piece of emergency apparatus. Don't be intimated! We are here to guide and help you through the process just ask! Operational Members are also asked to help with fundraisers and work details around the station. 

Social Members- Adults 18 years and older.

          These members are a huge part of our volunteer organization and we could not function without them! These members help with fundraising, work details at the station, and other various tasks and committees. Although they do not respond on the emergency apparatus, they will often help to clean the apparatus after a call to make sure it can be ready for the next emergency. Everyone has something to offer the Fire Company, just ask us for more information!

Junior Members- Young Adults 16-17 years of age.

           These members are old enough to take training and respond to emergency calls. They are limited in what duties they can perform on a scene but are essential to our Company! We also ask them to help with fundraising and work details to help the other areas of the Fire Company. 

Cadet Members- Youth 12-15 years of age.

            These members are the next generation of our Fire Company and the volunteer fire service! We meet monthly to train them as much as we can before they can take training at 16 years of age. See the "Cadets" section of the website for more information.

As you can see, we need a lot of dedicated volunteers of all ages and skills to ensure the Fire Company continues to operate smoothly. Our weekly bingo every Thursday evening is a great time to meet someone to hand in your application!
